Yes, you read that right. In this interview, with a straight face, Harry Reid says over and over again that paying taxes in the United States of America is voluntary! How could anyone make this stuff up? He had no choice but to concede that some tax evaders are fined or even imprisoned for not paying their taxes, but then reiterates that paying taxes in the USA is a voluntary process. There you have it folks, straight from Harry Reid’s mouth. Save this video so when you decide to stop paying taxes you can tell the IRS Harry Reid said it’s voluntary.

Harry Reid is one big stupid laugh and if the democrats don’t vote him out of office then they are just as much a fool!
It’s disturbing that our fellow citizens re-elect the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer. People aren’t paying attention.
I think he meant that paying taxes is voluntary if you’re a Democrat politician.
Harry Reid is normally a straight-shooter, so when he tries to act like a politician and twist the truth, he fails miserably. People “volunteering” their money for charities in order to deduct on their taxes is plausible; but saying that we “volunteer” our tax money as ordered by the federal government every April 15 is about as realistic as Antonin Sclalia saying “torture is not punishment.”
It reminds me of the scene in Futurama where Richard Nixon’s head says during a celebration of Freedom:
“My fellow Earthicans, we enjoy so much freedom, it’s almost sickening. We’re free to chose which hand our sex-monitoring chip is implanted in. And if we don’t want to pay our taxes, why, we’re free to spend a week with the Pain Monster.”
Did anyone actually LISTEN to what he said? Our system is a voluntary system - that is just the name for it; b/c it is different than European systems which I assume are called involuntary b/c you can not set your withholdings or something (i don’t know). But he never said it was voluntary to pay taxes. He said are system is voluntary in its name. Listen and you will see he never says it is voluntary. The person doling this interview is fighting with himself and not LISTENING to any of Reid’s answers. There is not one time where he says paying taxes is voluntary. This is a stupid video taking the terms forcefully and voluntary out of context using double talk to try and get Reid to say something that is not true.
Harry does not say paying taxes is voluntary? I only listened to it once but what other conclusion could be reached?(obviously Chris could) It is no wonder some liberal Democrats are out of touch. They are out of touch with reality in general.
This post did not make a convincing argument against Harry Reid. He even explains the difference between a voluntary and involuntary system. The interpretation between the interviewer and the interviewed was different. The interviewer wanted to corner Reid. Very lopsided argument.
Some of you are actually trying to tell me I have a choice about paying taxes? I suppose if I want to be a loser and stop working and stop producing I can stop paying income tax (but not property tax-if I stop paying that they will confiscate my property). Are you people serious?
I’m not sure what video Chris watched but I watched this one twice. Reid, in his simple and liberal mind is trying to say that in other countries the government takes all your taxes out of your paycheck and doesn’t give the people the joy of spending hours on your tax forms, the stress of worrying if you did it right and the fear of having enough money to pay the government on the date they are demanding payment. I think. But when it comes down to it you are forced to pay the government the money they want or face imprisonment. Oh we are in for a “fun” four years (sarcasm).
